Managers Need Better Training

Managers need better training. Period.

And this isn’t better ‘technical’ training. It’s ‘leadership’ training.

Often a person who excels technically in their craft is promoted into a management position. When promoted, they are not always given the proper training in leadership skills. These might include:

  • How to have those tough conversations…

  • How to motivate a team…

  • How to communicate effectively at all levels…

  • How to most effectively structure your time and make decisions…

  • How to strengthen your confidence when your self-doubt starts to take over…

  • How to embrace and utilize the aspects of emotional intelligence…

  • How to manage and communicate change…

  • How to problem solve…

  • How to run effective meetings…

  • How to build trust and respect…

  • How to delegate effectively…

  • How to coach to improve employee engagement and performance…

  • The list goes on and on…

We live in a world where human-to-human connection is less utilized.

It has become too easy to hide behind our phones or computer screens to communicate directives, unpleasant news, and constructive feedback.  Is it avoidance?  Is it laziness?  Is it complacency?

Authenticity and empathy as humans and as leaders start to become underutilized and lost traits, even though they are amazingly effective.

We need to be intentional with our actions to be an effective and respected leader. It does take work.

I think most of us know that people often leave companies because of their managers. The cost of time and money to the company’s bottom line adds up quickly.

If you’re in line to receive a promotion or you’re about to give someone a promotion – what are you doing to prepare yourself or this person to succeed in their role?  What do they need?

If your organization doesn’t offer leadership development and training or the specific kind you feel is needed – ask for it. Seek it out.

By doing so, you are showing initiative. You are showing drive. You are showing you WANT to succeed.

I’ve experienced a lot and have seen a lot in my 25+ years in corporate. Which is why the above is SO CRITICALLY IMPORTANT.

I offer leadership programs, workshops and one-on-one coaching for those in leadership or soon-to-be in leadership positions.

If you want to elevate yourself and your leadership acumen – let’s talk. Let’s get you on the path you want to blaze.
